if my occupation is 13B (cannon crewmember) could i still enlist to become a green beret after my 4 year contract is over? i heard that you would have a better chance to become a green beret, or looked at if you have a combat job, and as i know of 13B is a combat job.

You can be an Army cook and apply for 18 series training. Combat arms prior MOS holders have the advantage of being up to date with their Squad tactics and other foot soldier training.

If I enter Green Beret training, I need at least 8 hours of sleep a night. Can I insist on this as a condition to enter training?

... seriously? With this mind set you wont even get through Army basic training. War is tough, you could be fighting for days on end with very little sleep and your expected to be able to do this without a moments notice

I get less than 6 hours of sleep a night. And I'm not even a Green Beret. :p Think staying up for 24 hours or more. I suggest you watch Two Weeks In Hell.

What is the age limit on the green berets?Im 27 atm and am in exceptional shape.Took me a while to get my life together but it is now and ive always wanted to be a beret,i know i could do it.So if i had to spend 4 years in to even be considered i would be 31 or 32 before i could try.

Talk to your recruiter, 18xray program requires no prior service...

That's messed up that girls can't join the SF, but I can see why. Girls are physically smaller then men, usually. Lots of times Green Berets would have to be lugging around 150 pound packs and be pulling extremely heavy things. Girls just don't have enough muscle mass to do it. I wanted to be a Green Beret for a while too, Jaime. But I'm tiny. 5'1". I don't even tip the scales at 130lbs. I'm sure there's lots of other things you can do that will be just as difficult, good luck to you!

I have been in the Navy for the past 2 years and am seriously trying to go Green Beret. The only problem is I have no idea how to do this and asking another Sailor would how to cross over to the Army would be a death wish.....anyone have any info?

aaron from japan, I think your navy contract would have to be completed before you can enlist in the army. When you do, tell the recruiter you want into the 18X-ray program. You need a 110 GT score on your ASVAB test and be able to pass a minimum fitness test. There is a ton of information online to see if you can meet the requirements (Lots of the information on this site is incorrect). Look around and take the average of what you find online and you should come up with a comprehensive idea about what the requirements are and what the training will involve. I assure you, it is way more than 6 months. I am in the process of switching from reserves to active duty in the green beret program and have been told numerous times that from start to finish, the training will last no less than 1 1/2 yrs.

i have an ASVAB score of 79, could i get a waiver to enter Green Berets or would i have to try and get a higher score?

Your asvab score is different from your gt score. Your gt score is made by taking the scores from your math and English scores and putting them into a formula. My as asvab score was 78 but my gt score is 115
