I expect that we'll all own one eventually. For me I hope it's sooner than later, but then you already know that, don't you Jean?
I'd really like to build my own electric car. In my mind, the perfect car would be a convertable Karmann Ghia. It wouldn't be so bad not having air conditioning in a convertible, and those cars barely make it to 55 MPH normally so switching to all-electric wouldn't be much of a change.
Just give me the word and I'll head down to George's Buggy Shop!
I think that would be great. Go green and help the environment. It's a win-win!

If everyone did we would totally mess up the ecology with dead batteries in the land fills...
Yes, if I had the money to buy any car at all! Which I don't, but as soon as I do, it will be an electric one.
Not currently as the mileage range is too short and the infrastructure to recharge them is not set up yet.
However electric cars are here and are definitely part of our motoring future but I would probably buy a hybrid currently as this combines the best of both worlds at the moment.
I live in a metro area of roughly 6 million people. We're in a hurricane prone area and have had major evacuations several times in recent years. This causes the city to run out or have major shortages of gasoline. That has caused me to seriously think about the advantages of a hybrid or electric vehicle.
Yes.. I would buy a electric car
Not at this time. I have driven Prius before and it wasn't bad but I prefer performance. Maybe down the road I will change my mind.
If an electric car is one of those little go-cart looking cars, then no. I live in the country and would not want to drive that far on roads that the speed limit is over 30 to town and back in that little car. It's too dangerous. If I lived in town and only drove it around town, then maybe I'd think about it. Plus I have kids and there's absolutely no way anybody can tell me those little cars are safe for kids let alone any room for them!
I would definitely buy an electric car. The cost of electricity is much lower then it is for gasoline. Also, electric engines are much more efficient. A combustion engine has very low efficiency in the range of only 25%.
yup
yes definitely if I have the budget to buy one.
definitely once they can travel longer distances, and are equipped with complete green technology. from what i understand, the batteries on these cars are quite a toxic hazard, so this will need to be addressed. minimizing pollution in major cities requires community action and the use of as much non oil dependent technology as possible.

Yes but they are far from affordable. I hope in time the cost comes down to realistic.
For sure, I would love to say gas what?
yes.. i will really appreciate
I don't know. I think that range would have to improve for me to consider it. Where we live things are still pretty spread out. Also, while my current car only gets about 20 miles to the gallon (1992 6-cylinder Jeep Cherokee), it is old and the major impact to the environment tied up in its construction is long passed. Does it make sense to replace a perfectly good gasoline combustion engine with a new electric vehicle and all that manufacturing it entails? Then too, there is no way that we could afford a new car right now or probably in the near future. Maybe many years down the road when there are good electric utility vehicles for resale I might consider it.
At first my answer is yes due to the benefits to the environment but then hesitation has slipped in due to the cost of electricity where I live, it's not cheap. Maybe a mixture of petrol and electric would work out best for the consumer and the environment.
If I could afford it why not ?
No. They are a waste of time. You would be charging it more than you would drive it.
Absolutely. I am determined to see the downfall of big oil. The oil foolishness is costing untold lives in the middle east and will continue to do so until we break the monopoly. It is ridiculous that we have been so limited in our ability to harness other energy sources. The era of big oil will one day be seen as a blip on the radar screen of history.

» Answer from Tom Meyer Answer given 2 years 39 days ago.No, I wouldn't. Right now the main concern is they can travel an average of 30 miles. Its mainly for people in the big city with a short distance to travel. Where would you plug it in to charge it back up. We have along way to go before we can mass produce electric cars. The governement is stepping up here in Minnesota and going with more electric vehicles.
Yes, if it was safe, affordable, spacious, and convenient.
Not until it is a mature product
We are already driving electric cars. Electricity turns the engine over, fires the spark plugs, powers the lights, sounds the horn, runs your stereo, opens the windows, and keeps the computers running.
Our cars would not run without electricity.

I wouldn't NOT buy an electric car, although that is not saying that I definatley woudl buy an electric car. The reasons for buying one are very simple and revolve around the exploitation or crude oil, I think we shoud save some for future generations, who knows what great invention may require crude oil. My worries with electric cars are their performance, and I'mnot overly bothered about pure speed (as you only get flashed by damn cameras anyway!!) i watched a TV programme where an electric car was tested and it needed to be recharged every couple of hours, that's not very good for long journeys is it!!
Nope. The reason? In one word: cell phone. If my cell phone battery won't last more than a year I have dubious expectations for an electric car powered by expensive, yet cheap batteries. The technology has a lot of room to grow before it goes main stream, in my opinion. :)
» Answer from Kermit Bauer Answer given 2 years 30 days ago.If I only had a short commute to a city. Otherwise, I wouldn't want to drive such a little deathbox on a highway.
» Answer from Cameron Page Answer given 2 years 29 days ago.Only if it can recharge itself.
I like the concept of a cheaper fuel, but they just look so ugly. I would not currently buy an electric car, but if they start making better looking ones, I might come around
