With all the new gadgets and electronic stuff like Toyota's acceleration pedal problem and brake problem, do you feel safe in your new car. I felt much safer when most things on my car was mecanical with cables and stuff.
Answers to this question:I purchased a 2008 Kia Spectra two years ago. My main reasons for purchasing it was that it had several safety features (anti-lock brakes, 6 airbags, etc.) and at only $16,000 it was several thousand dollars cheaper than a comparable Toyota. It isn't quite as luxurious, but I can live without heated, vibrating, massaging, dish washing seats. I feel a lot safer in this car than I ever did in my 1980 Chevy Citation (my first car in high school). Yes, electronics fail and break, but consider this: if you were taking a cruise, would you rather take Carnival or the Santa Maria?
We don't have new cars (1999 and a 2003) thankfully.
I always feel safer in a newer car than in an older car because the former gives me a sense of security.

New, old, doesn't matter to me. It's how I drive that counts. I can't rely on a piece of metal and plastic to decide how safe my family and I are going to be.
I've seen video of 1970's giant, boat-like Oldsmobiles hitting a small Toyota head one. Toyota wins each time. The drive of the Olds would have died on impact, the driver of the Toyota maybe a broken leg.
New cars are much more safe. Statistical fact. Not as much fun to drive, though. Can't do doughnuts in the snow with front wheel or all wheel drive.
