Depending upon your driving habits and type of vehicle, this may take as few as 3 months or 3,000 miles, or be as long as 20,000 miles or 24 months.
About every 3,000 miles. It's a good idea to get a radiator flush every now and then, too.
Agree with John. Especially if you have an old car, say 10 years or older change it exactly when you notice it has been 3,000 miles or 2,900 to be safe. My 87' Nissan 300ZX is old obviously, and one time I waited till it was about 3,600 miles from last time I changed it, and the car went out due to no oil change!
every 3,000 to 5,000 miles, 5,000 may be a little long to wait
Id say change it every service, or twice per year, but agin Im only going from my own non-mnechanical knowledge, no offence. Always wise to do it before winter kicks in though.
The recommendation is every 3,000 miles, but this is incorrect. You can go longer than this if you use a synthetic oil and this is also based on older engines and older oil. Oil now a days is better than it used to be and engines are built differently. Plus it has to do with the age of your vehicle as well. The best rule of thumb is to check with a mechanic that is honest to find out how long you can really go. You should also use synthetic oil in all vehicles because you can go 5,000 mile in between changes with it.
5,000 the 3,000 standard was set forty years ago when oil and engines were of lower quality and efficiency
probably about once every 10,000 km as it is the time due to car servicing.
Every 5000 miles should be sufficient.
Every 3,000 miles but people forget when was the last time they changed their oil so go over those number of miles. Always keep a notepad in the car to write down the mileage on the odometer with each oil change.
every 3,000 miles
NOT every 3,000 miles. My god, do you people all work for the petroleum industry?
Unless you drive 100mph everywhere or leave your car idling for long periods, you're doing the environment a huge disservice by having your oil changed more than recommended in your car's owner's manual. And that's only if you're using the lowest quality oil available for that car.
If you use higher quality oil, such as semi-synthetic or full synthetic, there's no reason not to go longer. Go however long the oil says, or somewhere between your car's maintenance schedule and the oil's suggested interval.
Every 3000 miles for me.
