Goodnight Moon
It was a book about Thanksgiving...I was about 4 or 5
Oh I can't remember the title, but it was about a cat, I remember the story very well, the two evil dogs, the bird and the nice lady.. I think I learnt to read with that one :) The illustrations were so lovely !
the first novel I have read has been "The Witches" by Roald Dahl, who I still consider as one of my favourite writers!
I think it was called Roger Redhat. There was another called Jennifer Yellowhat.
They were not great books, but gotta start somewhere I suppose :)
The first book I read (besides educational books we learn in school) was a book about the life of Davy Crockett " I forget the title" I was 12 years old
The Bible Stories, where every page has its colorful pictures.

Curious George
"Fun With Dick And Jane," in the first grade. The first "real" book I remember reading was "The Matador," when I was 10 yrs. old.I read the whole book with my mouth hanging open and my eyes bugged out- I got it at the Public Library.
I think Bible was the first book ! And it is still No 1 for me :)
Noddy and Big Ears by Enid Blighton
According to my mother it was "Das Kleine Puttiputt" - it was a child's book in German about a little chick. I have always been an avid reader and, even way back then, I read a lot. My brother and I were not allowed much television and we developed our crafting skills and reading. We are also bilingual in German and French. He is great at Spanish and I learned Latin too. I mention this because, from an early age, we were expected to read often. Lucky we both love to read!
"Stranger in a Strange Land" by Robert A. Heinlein turned me into a sci-fi/fantasy nut. In fact, I would consider "Stranger in a Strange Land" to be the greatest science fiction story ever written, while "The Lord of the Rings" by J.R.R. Tolkien is the greatest fantasy, no, the greatest book ever written.
I remember reading "Oh Say Can you Say" by Dr. Suess
The alphabet book. =)
My Side of The Mountain.
Mr. Badger. I was about 4, and I remember it well - the story and the pictures!
Mr. Brown's Mixed Up Town.
My father's 'Playboy Magazine" with centerfold open looms in memory; he left it behind(not a pun) in the bathroom and I haven't been the same since.
Although I know I had a lot of books in my life before I went to school, the first book I remember reading was "Fun With Dick And Jane" which was used to teach kids to read in first grades all over the country.
it was an adapted version of Oliver twist which was beautifully illustrated.
