Yes, I did. It is like watching something grow. I was in-charge of procurement. I bought all the materials and supplies. I did the payroll at the end of the week. Yes, I enjoyed the process tremendously.

Yes, I actually built a house in high school for class. It was an awesome experience and learned a lot. After high school, I continued construction a little while I was in college. I had this one job building a deck where my job was to saw hundreds of boards. The saw was set up in an open area, with no shade, and was 90+ degrees. That was the last construction job I had. I still do small construction projects for myself or friends.

As part of my construction job I have helped to build a house. I loved it! There is nothing like working with your hands along side others who know what they are doing and taking pride in your own work. It is extremely satisfying to have immediately before you the direct results of your work and to be able to enjoy it either just as a satisfying form of employment or as something you get to enjoy for many years to come if it is your own.

I would only build a whole house once, so many decisions to be made about every small little thing from light switches to tap fitting to color schemes.

I have supervised the building of 9 homes - 1 was my own. Although the 8 client homes were not inspiring in any way (seemed like work), my home was a pleasure and I was enthused about it throughout the 8 month process. There were a million decisions to make, but my wife and I addressed the decorating issues after we moved it. Then we took our time and I believe we made better decisions that way.
