I've actually thought about this on many occasions. At one time I thought it would be a good thing to completely do away with tobacco; the plant, I mean. I thought that it would make the world a better and healthier place. But then I thought about all those poor people who would have to quit cold turkey, all the folks that would be out of jobs: processing tobacco, making tobacco products, building the machinery to process and produce tobacco products. I still think (I had my initial idea when I was in my teens) that the world would be better off without it, but I'm no t willing to risk the repercussions. So every time I get a bug up my bu** about something or other and start to think that it would be nice if I could wish it away, I remind myself about tobacco. These days my thoughts run toward eliminating hatred or intolerance or war and the like. But these things are flip sides of a coin with love, tolerance and peace on the other side. How do you eliminate one without messing up the other? As humans, we need a balance. The universe itself seems to seek a balance as do most living systems. If you completely do away with hatred, how do we know that something even worse won't come along to balance out love? For me it's a case of "better the devil we know than the one we don't." At least then we have a chance of dealing with it.

legalization and decriminalization of marijuana; if taxed, it would end the U.S.'s financial crisis as it is so prevalent and just exactly like alcohol prohibition in the thirties, unenforceable.

.It may be wrong as it violates 'the pursuit of happiness' clause in the U.S. constitution and has been proven MUCH safer than alcohol.

Honestly, I like Paul Shroeder's answer, and I'm not sure I can give a better suggestion. But, I would end reliance on animals as a source of food. A nation like the United States slaughters ten billion cows, pigs, and chickens every year. Each one of them capable of suffering, of consciousness, and therefore, equally deserving of sympathy. And, the amount of grain and water that animals consume would feed the world seven times over. It takes far more land for growing food to get beef to your table than it does to get bread to your table. In ending human consumption of animals, we would end the greatest suffering on the planet, and we would stand a chance at abolishing world hunger.

Honestly, I like Andy Carloff's answer better;I would surrender pot smoking and fill my home with rescued cows, pigs, and chickens!

I would stop the Bush Administration from every coming in to existence. Because it set this country back 10 to 20 years.

Maybe so, but it's still a wondrous country that could give a man with Down's Syndrome an equal chance to be elected and to run this country.

Did you know that 2% of people with Down Syndrome have normal range IQs? Just throwing that in for free. I surprised a pediatrician with that one - she was subbing for my boss and we had a Down Syndrome patient whose IQ was 98 and she couldn't believe it so I researched and showed her the figure. Not to ruin your point of anything... GRIN

What a thought provoking question. If I could change one thing, it would be that people truly have the right to there own opinion and belief (as long as that belief does not bring deliberately harm to another), without being harmed in anyway, from verbal bashing to violent acts. I believe that Jesus taught us to have Peace even with our enemies, he did not go around calling people names or harming them for disagreeing, and if we could all follow that, non-christian and sadly christian alike, the world would be a better place. Sharing our faith as a Christian should not lead us to put down other people or judge them as individuals. Nor should non christians treat Christians badly, because they choose to have faith, although this is to be expected because it has been happening from the beginning of time. I guess I could go on...ha :-)
