Do you work hard, or just do what you have to?
Answers to this question:God put Adam in the garden "to dress it and keep it" (work) the Bible says in Genesis 2:15. It wasn't until chapter 3 that Eve and he sinned. Before Adam sinned, God designed Adam to work.
Knowing the great importance God places on work, I try to work hard at whatever I do. Ecclesiastes 9:10 says, "Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might..."
It is a real challenge, like Gregory says, to work hard for bosses that are less than ideal. But the goal is the same for any boss...give him your best. Perhaps our best for a lousy boss can't quite measure up to our best for a good boss...human weakness and all...but the goal should be the same for those of us who wish to please God.
I actually enjoy work, mostly. I guess it has to do with what someone enjoys. For instance, I love plants and landscaping, so I'll do a lot of outside work getting hot, sweaty and very dirty and not mind at all. I do not like "exercise" so I can go to the treadmill and feel like I'm really working hard and want to quit in a very short time. I think "work" is maybe in the perspective.
Play first, work later... This way, job doesn't get boring :)
Working hard is sometimes not the best attitude to have. I prefer working smart and always give my best even if I do not like the job.

It is important to work hard and be focussed. Every job teaches you something . while working you should not cimpare yourself with others and at the same time you must respect every one. If you do not understand how to do a particular thing then you must clear all your doubts before doing that job rather than landing up doing the job wrong
Work is good, where it improves the opportunity of future generations, where it gives to the community, and where it creates wealth and social equality for all. But in our world, workers are exploited. In order to produce, you must have access to productive wealth, because we are living in an industrial world -- all, significant production requires machinery and land. Not having this means that the individual must submit to whatever wages are offered by the Capitalist. Adam Smith covers this exactly in chapter 8 of "Wealth of Nations," where he describes the Capitalist class as in a constant conspiracy to keep the majority of people in dire poverty. As Kropotkin more thoroughly demonstrated in "The Conquest of Bread," this poverty actually serves the employer. Without such rampant misery, people would not accept such miserably low wages.
If I were working, in order to improve my situation, and the lives of all to come after me, then I pour every bit of energy into it. But in Capitalism... I'm working to improve the profits for some Capitalist -- a wealthy, property-owner who hires sweatshop and forced labor in third world nations, who props up dictators in Venezuela, Chile, Iran, and Indonesia just to get higher rates of return. Yes, working more, whether I am laboring in an office building or in the depths of a mine puts profits into the Capitalist's coffer. I'm working to make wages for deathsquads in Africa and South America; I'm working to dump more mercury into the oceans and to toxify the air; and I'm working to pump more money into right-wing causes, like the US Chamber of Commerce, which formally denies the existence of Global Warming.
If I were working to make this world a better place, I wouldn't stop. But in this kind of social order, the only innocent people are the poor and homeless -- the more you make, the more responsible you are.
I gave (retired at the moment) everything I had while at work and when I punched out I wanted to be off the clock. If I came in early to do e-mail and didn't have any - I went to work before I punched in - many times I didn't take breaks (shame on me) but worked instead. Tried to be a team player and inventive and help others when I slowed down with my tasks.
Work is not a curse. Work is something that we can take pride in -a job well done. We should do a job that has a mark of "excellence" on it.
We are happiest when we are working and accomplishing things. However, all work and no play isn't healthy, so we also need to learn to relax and enjoy life. In other words being a workaholic isn't the answer. But at the same time we shouldn't hate work or view it as boring. We should be industrious, always striving to do our best in the workplace. If we are working for someone we should be very conscientious to give them full value, good work and always trying to do better.
I'm adding another comment here to follow up on Greg Lewis and Robert Ogden's ongoing debate as to whether God created man to exploit him.
Of course Robert is right that God does not need us. We need him. Therefore, his creation of man was an evidence of his love. His joy came from sharing life, not exploiting it.
It was Satan, via the serpent, who claimed otherwise. Satan claimed "God knows if you eat this fruit your eyes will be open ... you'll become like God, etc." The words "God knows" implies that God was holding something good back from man. Satan's words were a lie (John 8:44). God was not holding anything back. He was not being selfish. Nor does he have a big ego wherein he's not satisfied unless everyone is worshipping him. To the contrary he gives us rules and laws because he loves us and knows what is best for us, his creatures. Our obedience is for our own good.
But he doesn't force us to obey. He has lovingly given us free will. So the choice is ours. Not only has God lovingly not forced his will upon us, but he has even allowed us to experiment with playing God. What do I mean?
Well, remember, Satan claimed that by eating the fruit Adam and Eve would become like God. What is meant is that they didn't have to listen to God. They could decide right and wrong for themselves. As a result, God has not enforced his rulership over mankind, but has allowed us to form our own governments and thus rule ourselves, deciding for ourselves what is right and wrong.
The results have been disastrous. For example today we make our own rules regarding sexual morality, abortion, and other matters, but Society is paying a price for our acting like gods. In any event Satan has proven to be a liar on all fronts. First Adam and Eve did die and return to the dust as God said they would. Second, as earlier mentioned, God was holding nothing good back from them, and third, his claim that we could be gods, or that we don't need God has proved a lie as well. We were not created with the ability to self-govern independent of God. The many wars and injustices that have resulted from human rule of the earth under Satan has certainly proved this to be the case.
The good news is that this experiment with human rulership under Satan that God has permitted will soon end. His Kingdom government under Christ will remove all human governments in the near future (Daniel 2:44). Thereafter, he will establish "a new heavens and new earth", a totally new system wherein he once again will be our ruler.
The blessings man will experience at that time will be wonderful, including the opportunity for eternal life. No person rewarded with eternal life will feel he has been exploited by God. To the contrary intelligent beings with free will will choose to obey God, because they recognize that only he has the wisdom to bring about perfect harmony and peace among his created beings who possess free will. It all hinges on everyone's recognizing this and obeying God without being forced to do so.
That would never happen in this world under human rule, but under God's rulership in the new earth it will happen. Then all those granted eternal life will recognize that required obedience to God is an expression of his love for our good and for the peace of all intelligent beings.
God will then be justified in removing Satan eternally, as his claim that God created man to exploit him, similar to Gregory's claim, will have been proven to be a lie and will be so recognized by all intelligent beings.
» Answer from Dennis Ward Answer given 2 years 196 days ago.I don't work hard.. I work smart. You can work hard as much as you can but no good result in the end. However, when you work smart even if you don't exert effort that much you know for the fact that in the end you will receive good result.
Like for an instance, for a sales person, you know how hard it is to get a sale right? You work hard and do the same thing over and over again; and same thing happen every time.
But what smart people do in that situation is to think of different ways to improve them self. It is better to be wise and smart most of the time.
What type of work? Working for others or yourself? Both have it's ups and downs. I prefer working for myself.

In order to be content with my job, I don't look for personal fulfillment or happiness there. This is my way of staying content: My life begins at 5:00.
Of course I work hard - hard and with honesty. You won't be productive anyway if you just seat there all the time you need to attend your work to be done and be more effective.
