I don't think it would affect it any more than reading a book for hours would. After I've read a book for a while, I find it a little hard to focus well on distant objects for a bit. If you have a CRT monitor for you computer, a little bit of tint in your glasses (if you need glasses to focus on the monitor) can help with eyestrain from the glare. We have a flat screen LCD monitor and I have an anti-glare coating on my computer glasses that helps me see the monitor better. As I've gotten older, I have developed some trouble with focusing on the middle distances (presbyopia ... my husband is an optician). Your eyes have muscles in them and those muscles need exercise just like anything else. So I would think that the more you use them for a specific purpose, the stronger they would get at that. Of course, there is no help for aging. Very rambling answer and not very clear cut, but there you are. That's the mood I'm in this morning.

Too much usage of computer affects the eyes the most and also it causes back pain. Now a days filters are used in front of the computer screen to reduce the effect of the computer on the screen. likewise to avoid the back pain the person should sit in the correct height in front of the screen. happy mylotting!

I think so. When I walk away from the computer then do something which uses distance vision, it is hard to focus without squinting. Then again, I may need a new RX, but it happens consistently after using the computer for a couple hours.

Computer eye strain has become such a common eye disorder that it has been given a name - Computer Vision Syndrome. Some of the symptoms of this type of eye fatigue are eyes feeling tired or heavy, burning sensation, eyes watering, blurred vision, headaches, irritated eyes, dry eyes, or trouble refocusing.

It is not just from long hours of looking at a computer - it is also the result of improper lighting, where and how the computer screen is positioned and glare from the screen.

There are several easy things a person can do to reduce computer eye strain. Take frequent eye breaks, perform eye exercises, and adjust your computer monitor contrast and glare. To learn more about what you can do to prevent computer vision syndrome go to:
