What is "interruption advertising"?

Advertising that you want to shove back in the advertisers face for being so dam rude.

Interupt and rude do not mean the same thing.

Interuption marketing has been the most common form of marketing and advertising over the past 50 years.

Every TV ad is interuption marketing - yet we often watch.

Interruption advertising is the advertising you are already used to- i.e TV ads, billboards, signs at baseball games, etc. They are the ads that you did not ask for, but see or hear anyway. Interruption advertising is generally contrasted with Permission Marketing (or Advertising) where someone "asks" for you to advertise to them in the future. An example of this is online newsletters or coupon emails from stores. You had to give them permission to advertise you that way.

Interruption advertising occurs when an advertisement interrupts what you are doing that requires an action by you to continue on with your task.

The opposite of interruption marketing is "persmission marketing". That term was made popular by Seth Godin in his book by the same name.

Permission marketing is particularly an internet marketing technique where you are asked to confirm your subscription to an email newsletter.

Interruption marketing is any type of marketing that interrupts your train of thought to pitch you a marketing message.

That would include telemarketing, TV ads, bilboards, magazine ads, popup ads on websites,...
