Certainly not; human beings and most creatures will be boiled off the surface of the Earth, with mankind resolved into only a thin fossil layer, as a reminder, but the world shall certainly survive.....
I think it's just the beginning, not the end.

Where I live it's still 2011. Okay, I get it. Not for long right? But if you listen to the physicists these days, there is no past, present or future. There is only the now, this moment. Who knew that Tolle would be backed up by science?
Each and every moment the world as we know it ends. This moment right now is not the same as this moment right now.
But ... going along with your thought ... with the ending of something there is the beginning of something else. Who's to say that's a bad thing. Maybe we are heading toward a better world. Problem is that it's so subjective. My idea of what would be great might not be the same as yours.
So okay, the short answer is YES.
My world ends every night when I sleep, a new one appears. One day I will die, a stopped clock is right twice a day, and if it's not 2012, it will be some other year.
Probably Not, and Jesus said "Occupy til I come", and he also said only the Father/God knows when Jesus will return. The Battle Of Armegeddon will not come until after Christians have been to the 'Bride's Supper Of The Lamb", after the catching away, because we are the returning Armies of Heaven with Jesus to fight for Israel.
Considering that any forecasting of the end of the world is based on arbitrary dates set by mankind, naming any date in the future is nothing more than a crap shoot. Every civilization has a different calendar and a different date. Maybe it's just the "as we know it" part that will change. But that can change with a song, a movie, a natural disaster, a war or a medical diagnosis. If you were told you had cancer, that, too, would change your world from that moment. Everything you thought before would become trivial, anything that didn't directly effect your health would be superfluous. Some people's worlds ended before this year. Guess time was just quicker for them. As Benny Hill has said: Live every day as if it were your last . . . because . . . one day, you'll be right!

Still, he suggests that some will survive... if they "resonate" to the new resonance of the time. I take this to mean resonate to the resonance of the new Golden Age of Man, and this resonance will be that of Spirituality.
I have written a few books on this point [http://about-psychology.com/books.html].
Peace
