How does a group leader contact everybody in their group?

I've decided to volunteer as leader for WMLTGIT, and I see I can award points, but I can't see the option to send group emails.

Presuming a group leader has some kind of contact list of all the members of said group, contact can either be made directly to each member (email, facebook, telephone) or an easier way is to have smaller groups inside the group, contact the leaders and have the message passed on, or have a contact tree -- each member contacts two other designated members. The message is passed around and gets people talking amongst themselves, instead of everyone in the group having only contact with a leader. This also distributes responsibility, making everyone important but not putting a full burden on one contact person. Inter-group contact tends to strengthen the entire group and takes a massive burden off the leader from the trivial bits, giving more time to important issues.

Thanks, Octavia, I was actually just talking about how WryteStuff makes that contact list available, because as a leader I can't see the option. I'm hoping somebody will point it out to me!

leave it on comments on the wall or home wall of your group you have to be a group member to do that.

Hey Jen, when you add an announcement to the group home page, you'll see a link to send out the announcement to all members. After you send it, the link disappears. I haven't tried it in a while, so let me know if it doesn't work like this.

Under the "Member Menu" on the right, it should have a button that says, "Edit Announcement".

Yeah this works fine, the only thing that can confuse you that it sends less messages than the actual member number, that is because some members have configured that they don't receive e-mail from SW or WS.

HyunSoung have you figured a way to work out who the members are - the ones who don't receive email?

Yes it does work, but as HyunSoung says, it only sends to members who've ok'd getting email messages. Problem is, I don't know who those members are, so I can't send them a private WS message. I'll figure something out...

I didn't, but i have an idea, if they don't know about it and want to fix it, perhaps you can announce it so that they read it and fix it back, if they don't fix it back at that, then i guess they don't want to be bothered or something like that.

Great idea, thanks.

Ask each person in the group to personally send you their contact information. You should ask for name, mailing address, phone number and E-Mail address. With information stored in a separate mailing list you should have no problem sending out a group E-Mail, calling each member or sending each member a notice to their snail mail address.
