Total Answers: 2, Total Page Views: 169.I was on antidepressants before I was pregnant, and they told me to stay on them while I was pregnant. I was on Effexor, about 450mg. If you are not on them now, I would suggest not to do that, just get some exercise , go for a walk, eat right, make yourself do something that's fun to you. Because.......I am no expert, but after both of my kids were born, I was wondering why my youngest fella, who was born a month early was jerking so bad, or having little muscle spasms, and the nurse told me that it would be the withdrawls from what I was on. It broke my heart !! But...if you are on them now, stay on them, the baby will be OK, it's just hard to watch, and it only lasts about 6 days or so, because if you try to get off them now, your going to be twice as depressed plus go through withdrawls and then your baby inside you will go through them as well and I would be scared about that since he/she isn't fully developed.........ask your doctor what he/she thinks.............but I would suggest, positive stuff, EXERCISE !!!! Watch a funny movie, take a long hot bath and soak in it for an hour and put your head in the water just enough for the water to go over your ears to block out noise and think positive or pray, read your bible, that helped me and I am not that religious. Psalms is good start at chapter 23....I think that's the Lord Is My Shepard one.....
I think Kathy has given excellent advice. In particular, though, stay away from Effexor if you do decide on an anti-depressant. It has some of the worst withdrawal symptoms and getting off of it can take a very long time. VERY long time. I know because my husband was on it for a while.
My advice is whenever possible, choose the natural route and stay away from all drugs, prescription or otherwise!
I was worried about being on Effexor while pregnant, but the doctor told me that it would be worse to come off it while I was pregnant, dangerous for baby. All Antidepressants have bad withdrawls, not just effexor, but if you absolutely absolutely have to get on something do it I guess.....just try not to have to.........and as soon as you have your baby then go on something for sure, as you may get those baby blues if your depressed now.......
