Perhaps because of paltry attention given to most queries, the few responses and too facile answers, make one want to close up shop; it's the feeling of feeding coins into a slot machine, that will not pay off.

That's what all the girls say, and it's NOT true!

There are some that have been open for a very long time. I close my questions when they stop receiving responses OR when it has been answered in such a way that I figure no more may be said about it.

I have one question open that I cannot close because it has never received a response, I can't choose a best answer and it therefore doesn't give me the option of closing it. I'd really like to close it, though.

So, how long do you leave yours open and why do you think others close them too quickly?
