Does anybody on Searchwarp live in New York? I'm looking for some addresses of publishers?

Help! I live in Cape Town, South Africa, and can't find the addresses of Gotham Books, Amy Einhorn Books/Putnam, Avery, Perigree Books, Price Stern Sloan, Riverhead Books, Tarcher. They all belong to the Penguin group, and the website doesn't list their addresses. Can't find them through the New York White or Yellow Pages either.
Anybody got any suggestions?
Answers to this question:Google your query, specifically worded, tailored, for "contact information" or "submissions" and see if THAT helps..
(E.G.: 'Riverhead Books, contact information")
Thanks Paul, but I've tried Googling everything. The addresses aren't available through the internet because they only want agents to contact them. I'm trying to get around that!

That's a good suggestion Paul but it's not coming up with the actual address. I haven't put my real search thinking cap on yet.
If it was me looking for the address, I would indeed start with a specific search criteria as Paul suggested. I would put my specific search term into " " quotation marks so I would not have to wade through the junk. I would use the library to help me find the addresses. Ask for latest publisher information. Perhaps they have Nexis/Lexis search capabilities. Define the search precisely.
But, if I was really looking, why not call Penguin directly. I'd ask, politely and requesting just a little assistance, to locate the address (I think in NYC) for Gotham blah blah blah. Nice as honey, asking for help, hoping to get a little info - bingo, I'd have it. Problem is you're in So. Africa. Not so easy. Perhaps I'll try a few myself tomorrow. Cannot promise too much time. But I'll give it a shot.
Jennifer - you've got an uphill battle because they have all the imprints out there on this link http://us.penguingroup dot com fslash static fslash pages fslash publishersxv index fot html but no addresses are provided. So I searched on Penguin further. The basic info is under this address.
Penguin Group (USA) Inc.
Library Marketing Department (Adult Division)
375 Hudson Street
New York, NY 10014
Phone: 212-366-2372
Fax: 212-366-2933
Manuscript Submissions
Due to the high volume of manuscripts received, most Penguin Group (USA) Inc. imprints do not normally accept unsolicited manuscripts.
Neither the corporation nor its imprints assume responsibility for any unsolicited manuscripts which we may receive. As such, it is recommended that sole original copies of any manuscript not be submitted, as the corporation is not responsible for the return of any manuscript (whether sent electronically or by mail), nor do we guarantee a response. Further, in receiving a submission, we do not assume any duty not to publish a book based on a similar idea, concept or story.
The preferred and standard method for having manuscripts considered for publication by a major publisher is to submit them through an established literary agent. We cannot recommend an agent for your work; however, we can suggest such guides as Literary Market Place for agent listings and their contact information. There are also online resources for writers interested in learning more about the process of submitting manuscripts to agents and publishers. A good place to start is the Authors Guild.
You probably know this already.
Thanks, Heidi, I appreciate this info. I do know the Penguin Head Office address, and I've read everything they say on their website. I know they say they generally only want submissions from agents but I took the "generally" to mean "sometimes we do accept unsolicited work", so I thought I'd try and find the contact details and phone them so I can at least confirm that they won't accept mine without an agent. I understand these barriers are up for a reason, but I also know that persistence sometimes pays!
Hi Jennifer - I did call Penguin today. I used first the Library Number and got a recording as I expected. They referred callers to the main switchboard number which is: 212-366-2000. I called the switchboard. The operator that answered was very very helpful. Since I had only basic information, I asked simply about several of the companies you mentioned including Gotham and two others. She said, "Why they're right here." That address is 375 Hudson Street, New York, New York 10014.
I asked her about submitting a manuscript. She said you'd need to get an agent - no surprise. The exception is for childrens' books. No agent is needed to submit for kid books.
I asked how do you go about getting an agent. She said you basically have to find one. But she gave me a website that she says "is extremely helpful" and she also let slip that they use some of these agents frequently. That website is "literarymarketplace.com"
It has always been my experience that information is available with probing, sometimes a whole lot of it. I skimmed the very basic surface just now in one simple little call. I wish you much luck.
Heidi you're an absolute darling, thanks for doing this. I'll check out that website. I've thought of also just sending a letter of enquiry to all the different publishers c/o that Hudson Street address. Maybe I should, it can't hurt, can't it?
