Why Do You think That People Become Politicians?

I am totally disillusioned with mine and wonder what his motivation is.
Answers to this question:Politicians who seek out and study public opinion polls, are non public servants; like water, able to fill any vessal, they have no opinions of their own, but will agree with the polled public, to stay in office.
These politicians are two steps below child molestors.
All public office positions should be voluntary, with no renumeration, to encourage altruistic public servants and not politicians.
There are only two kinds of Politicians even though politician is just a word.
First kind: One who has desire in their heart to represent and guide the people
Second kind: One who has desire and determination to fill their bank account

I know I would not ever run for public office. That is a certainty - not in this day and age. I know my son heads an elective office in our town. He is the head of the Finance Committee - his wife is also in elected office on the Board of Education. I say again, nope - never.
I think the vast majority of politicians are in it for power. Yep power and lots of it.
Maybe some really do it to serve their country - I can hope. But many do it as a big power trip and unfortunately it is quite evident on both sides of the aisle.
