To me, it's 50/50.
Answers to this question:Most of the time I find it easy to write, but for the most part I always write about what I know,But if I write about something fiction then yes I find it hard , because then I got to plan out the story thats I'm writing
Exactly, Michelle. Fiction is harder to write than non-fiction. But most of all, we must be familiar with the plots we want to write about.
There were days I found it hard NOT to write. Every thought and feeling poured out at my keyboard. For the past few months things have gotten in the way of that. Writing is easy if I write when I'm feeling it. It's impossible if I TRY to write.
I should understand that, Brianna. When the feelings and thoughts are present, it's hard not to write. You can't even hold on a minute because they are spilling out......
Some day, it doesn't come up no matter how you want to write, no inspiration nothing. (block)
Writing always has been and still is murderously difficult; words only loosely describe any elusive or poignantly ineffable experience/ reality.
Shaping sentences and crafting words towards a clearer view of that is worse than nerve-wracking, for me.
I agree with you, Paul. Writing can be excruciating if you are thinking of perfection but it should be the way for any writer.
Kafka wrote a nightmarish story about a writer inflamed about writing a novel; he wrote a dazzling first paragraph and then spent ten years repeatedly editing and rewriting that same paragraph......
Compulsivity and writer's block combined such that writing became a disease....
This is pure nightmare, Paul.
It used to be difficult for me, but easier now, probably because I've done so much of it and I'm clearer about what I want to say. I spend a lot of time on editing, though, and making sure that what I say is what I want to say, and that it's readable! That can be anything from quite challenging to uphill all the way...
Practice makes perfect, Jennifer. I agree with your point.
If I feel that I "have" to write something, then it becomes difficult. Especially if I am uninspired. I have been enjoying the weekly writing assignments because they offer up topics and I don't have to try to decide about what to write.
On the other hand, this means that I don't always write about things that most interest me at the moment and I do not feel that I do my best writing when I am not very interested in the topic.
When I am writing about something that has significance for me, I can not help but write ... and the words flow easily ... usually.
I'm not one of those people who enjoys doing difficult things on a regular basis. I do like a challenge now and then ... but not every day or every time I sit down at the computer. So if writing were genuinely difficult all of the time, there is a very good chance I would not do it. I have no explanation, however, for why I persist in trying to learn to ride a horse and ride him in shows. Every time I get up on him, I run into some sort of difficulty. I guess insanity is the only explanation. :) That, and I love him.
If you really 'loved him', you'd get off his back!
Well, see how things go, Paul. Women can manipulate a horse.
Really! The saddle weighs about 25 pounds and I weigh 100 (okay, 105 dressed). He weighs about 1,100 pounds. I've worn proportionately heavier backpacks for hours with ease. Besides, he's old and needs the exercise. Of course, I could just lunge him. But he loves to get all dressed up and perform in the shows and you can't do that without practice. Of course, I could try teaching him to free-dance ... nah. It's too much fun to get up on him despite the grief (or maybe because of) the grief he sometimes gives me. Oooh, sound a bit defensive don't I.
I've known a number of people who think we should never get on a horses back. That we should just keep them as pets. But I believe all creatures need a purpose and that supplying love isn't always enough. I love my Bernd with all my heart but if I never cooked or cleaned the house, straightened up the garage, did the shopping or paid the bills, I wouldn't feel good about myself.
Horses aren't people, but I still think that some of the things that motivate us, motivate them too. As you might have guessed, I've struggled with this very issue and have often thought I shouldn't ride. But it's such a wonderful co-operative effort that when it goes right is really indescribably amazing.
Whoa! I kind of went off there. :)
In this first paragraph, for a while, I thought that you were talking about Bernd!
Paul, you are such a nut. Oops! Should I have said that? :) Gotta luv ya. :) After all, you make me laugh. HUGS!
I am a member in good standing of N.U.T.S!
Haha, insanity .
I too, like Bruce's weekly assignments. I think this could be called " psychology effect " We know we have to do it somehow, we just do it.
Horses, a long story. Dianne. ( a good topic )
all of the above I find fiction easy but writing is time consuming factual writing this is research and u hv 2 hv info correct
It depends.
If I feel like writing and know what to wright about, it can be pretty easy.
It also depends if I write an article in English or in my native language. English can be quite difficult for me sometimes, mostly because I can't find the words I'm looking for, but I once read a book called 'write like a maniac' and it really helped me write better.
It's like the book says, if you start writing, just write and eventually you get into a flow and then it's important you just keep typing and don't think about the spelling and syntax. Just write like a maniac and enjoy the flow :).
Spelling and syntax you can always adjust later on.
Grtz
Hi Maurintius, nice to see you here and yes, I agree with you. If we have the idea and the inspiration, writing something isn't so difficult.
Hope to see your article coming.
Thanks, nice to be here too.
Haven't logged in here for quite sometime, but I'm glad I did.
It kinda feel likes coming home :-).
I'm working on an article as we speak.
Kind regards
Writing is easy. Presenting it is difficult. There's a lot of rejection in the world, it takes time to read and whatever the excuse, most writing doesn't go anywhere. Still, ideas fall into my brain in the abundance of electric snowflakes. I'm not foolish enough to think every idea is a literary sensation, but much like exercise, the more you do it, the better you become. Maybe it's the same process of an infinite number of monkeys with typewriters, if I write enough, there's bound to be something wonderful in the stack. There is always an idea.
Very precise, Octavia. Ideas come first and you will do the rest. Plus favourable time and space. Done.
I love writing because writing is what I love. Self taught I've been writing for twenty
years and it's been an incredible experience for me. In my earlier years however it was
difficult but one needs to be avid reader first to become a gifted writer later.
Understanding language, expression of it, emotions, characters, scenes and writing for
the reader only is more rewarding.
So yes writing to me is easy, it's a part of me
Kellie
Sounds exactly like you, Kellie. You are a wonderful writer.
Thank you Hilda and good luck in your writing.
Have a great day

That's right. Hard to beat, it needs a struggle.
