What happens when I assign an article to a particular group?

As I understand it, groups don't get points; only teams do. So what would be the benefit of placing an article in a group? Does it limit its exposure? What's it all about? Inquiring minds (mine seems to be that way in spades today) want to know. :)

You should get bonus points for this one Dianne. I'm off on another planet when it comes to groups. Just within the past couple days I picked some groups to join, but now that I've picked them, I don't have a clue as to what I'm supposed to do next.
I keep waiting for a "Welcome to Our Group" letter from the head groupie in charge and so far I haven't seen one. I figure when I receive my welcome packet then I'll know what I'm supposed to do next :)
Patricia,
Thanks so much for answering this. Now I can finally select a best answer (yours) and close it. Yay!
Most of the groups don't have leaders. I belong to Story Tellers, Women Most Likely to Get into Trouble and Nature Lovers. Of those three, only the first two have leaders ... that I know of.
You may not get a "welcome" letter.
I think the groups are mainly handy as a way to categorize your articles and also possibly get them a little more notice. As for knowing what to do ... just make it up as you go along. That's what I do. :)
Never thought of using a group to categorize an article - for the most part I just picked the ones that had the fewest people.
Didn't really expected to get a 'welcome' letter as such, but it would be nice to have a better understanding on the purpose of the groups.
I'll just continue along as I have been and hope for the best :)
