Is actor Ben Kingsley actually of Indian origin?

I read on MSN once that actor Ben Kingsley originally belonged to a family from Gujarat who migrated to the United Kingdom and his Indian name was something like Harkishan. The name Ben Kingsley, the news said was chosen as his screen name. How true would that be?
