Many claim to be Christian, but do they really follow the teachings of Christ? Can we say that most who are active in a Christian Church are really true Christians? How can we know? What does the Bible say that can help us identify true Christians?

Good answer, Jack. Being a Christian begins with accepting Jesus as the Messiah (Hebrew) or Christ (Greek), the foretold "Anointed One of God" (that is what Messiah or Christ means). However, the problem is that many claim to have accepted Jesus as the Messiah or Christ, but do not practice or in some cases even believe his teachings. Jesus said at Matthew 7:21-23, "“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’" Jesus is here speaking of persons who recognize him as Lord, but obviously are not true Christians. More is required.

Romans 12:9-21 gives you what alot of churches call Christian Ethics. The most Identifying would be love, love will be felt from a true Beleiver, also the scripture states you will feel thier spirit. Remember true love only comes from the Lord, a Christian will radiate that love.

Good answer, Robert. You have given us the Number 1 identifying mark of true Christians. Jesus said at John 13:35, "By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another." There are many other identifying marks as well.

Actually I am a little disappointed that there were so few responses to this question. Perhaps it suggests that many do not recognize that there are both true and false Christians. Clearly one is not a Christian just because he joins or belongs to a Christian Church. For that matter a church is not Christian just because it says that it is. For a very thorough discussion of this subject that outlines the difference between true and false Christianity, as well as showing from the Bible what the identifying marks of true Christianity are, please cut and paste the following link into your browser to read a very complete article I wrote on the subject:

I did some research on old religions and discovered something.

There was only one religion a long time ago. This religion was called

Muslum, the most dishonest and controling religion out there.

Over time many would migrate north, south east or west changing

aspects of this religion calling it a different name. This continued on to this day and still more religions are being added, what for?

So in a nut shell I now know why I dont believe in any religion or god because

it came from the most dishonest religious there is. They wrote lies
