In 1930 Chandrashekhar Venkata Raman received that the preeminent award - the Nobel prize in Physics for his work on the scattering of light and for the discovery of the effect named after him (Raman Spectroscopy). He was the first Asian (he was born in India) to receive a Nobel Prize in science.

Sir Raman was a brilliant mind with many outstanding contributions to science.
