Well, I'd sure like to find a function that gave out money. I can only find those where I have to pay, and pay and pay. Again, enter the horse - I'd go to horse functions if they were easy to drive to. I'd go to a new store opening. I'd go to a cause invitation.

We have a business page. The activity that attracts the most impressions is the poll tool. Not sure if that was the question you were asking though.

As an administrator for a page with over 16,000 fans; as well as my own page with just shy of 3,000 fans, I don't think it is necessarily an activity that will attract a client to attend an event/workshop or even show up at your business to shop.

My experience has been that first the content must be of value on the page. With the hundreds of thousands of pages on Facebook, something has to draw them in. Second, after they are there, they have to be engaged in some manner to stay for more than 2 seconds. It is only when they are engaged, they realize a person is behind the page, that they are attracted to attend or purchase.

Just my experience.

I have seen a number of FB fan pages that have competitions on them that seem to have a lot of interest. e.g. 'in 25 words or less, tell us why ...' and then after a certain amount of time, a winner is notified on that fan page. Works for me:)
