Astral Projection and Out of Body Experiences - What methods have you used?

Years back I had two types of out of body experiences:

1. When I laid down to go to sleep at my Parents home many moons ago, I suddenly heard a loud Cork-Pop sound, in my right ear. I also suddenly found myself out of my body sitting in a chair next to the couch where my body was lying, sleeping.

2. While lying on my back going to sleep, I heard a sound starting in my ears like, static or electricity crackling. The noise gained in intensity, as I laid there motionless. Then it felt like waves of energy roaring up and down my body. Next, I found myself floating about 4 inches off the bedroom floor near my bed. I perceived myself as a small point of light.

Have you experienced such things? What methods do you use? I find relaxation, slow deep breathing to be the best, but it's hard not to fall asleep at times before the separation occurs.

I had this experience only once when I was meditating at "Shri Aurobindo Ashram - Pondicherry". I was all of a sudden walking out of my body for a few seconds. But when I came back, there was friction in my body and my eyes opened with a quick reaction to it. Never happened again after this.

I have had many vivid dreamlike experiences, mostly unpleasant where I have 'floated' by thought, that have later panned out to be OBE's; I often pray to God, before bed, to please KEEP me within my body as I sleep. OBE's to me are replete with lack of control as I wander among monsters and beasties.
