The boston cooler is made with ginger ale and creamy vanilla ice cream. Some make it with club soda or rum or coffee and add sherbet. Sometimes "root beer floats" are called Boston Coolers. There were first made popular in Detroit, Michigan where the local golden Ginger Ale (Vernor's) was used. The Boston Cooler is listed on the menu by the National Coney Island restaurant chain.
