We have no kind of GPS in either of our cars. I've used paper maps for years and have no problem with finding things with maps. My husband on the other hand, can never seem to orient himself with a map. If he has to find some place on his own, I usually write out directions in words for him. I think I would find some device talking to me and telling me what to do while I am trying to focus on driving safely to be quite annoying and distracting. Oh, and I do NOT look at the map while I am actively driving. If my memory fails me or something comes up that is unexpected, I pull over to look at the map. That's my little bit of "soapbox" commenting for the day.

If you get one of the up to date ones, they can be very useful and accurate.

No. I do not own a GPS. I always know where I am going before I leave the house. If I am leaving town, I search the web for the directions that I may need. A GPS is so unnecessary.

Yes of course. How could it not be helpful? It's a map.

yes i do, but only if it can find the address in the first place. i have had a couple of problems with my garmin not being able to find addresses, usually newer ones, but as long as it has the address in its database, it has always been extremely accurate.

I find they are very slow in a big city. They still need to improve the technology.

i think that there are 3 types of people when it comes to directions:

Those who want to see a visual map;

Those who want to read a set of directions

Those who want to hear step by step diections

Yes without mine I wouldn't be able to find my way home! I live in the UK and I took it with us on trips to France, Spain and America, it worked perfectly everywhere except in Washington DC.

We must have been up this one road 15 minutes trying to find the hotel when we finally asked someone we where 15 monutes away.

Apart from that it works perfect everytime and we have travelled through New York, up to Mass, down to Phili and on to North Carolina.

One peice of equipment I dont leave home without.
