That's interesting. I don't know if that is true. It's not what I'm looking for. There is a

simpler explanation.

The Benz logo is a simplistic three-pointed star that represents its domination of the land, the sea, and the air. The famous three-pointed star was designed by Gottlieb Daimler to show the ability of his motors for land, air and sea-usage. It was first seen on a Daimler in 1909, and was combined with the Benz laurel wreath in 1926 to signify the union of the two firms.

But what was the symbol based on?

Look at it and what do you see?

I see a cog wheel or perhaps a propeller.

Alex,

Yes - it is a propeller - because they made airplane engines.

In regards to this i did some research. Actually the design is based on a cog wheel, so i was still correct. However the propeller design is actually BMW.

The current BMW logo is inspired from the circular design of a rotating aircraft propeller. The white and blue checker boxes are a stylized representation of a white/silver propeller blade spinning against a clear blue sky. It also reflects the origins of BMW as a military aircraft engine maker during WWI and that BMW started as an aero engine manufacturer.

The three pointed star of Mercedes has been around and registered trademark of the manufacturer since 1903 only a year after the first flight by the Wright brothers. The star was taken from the founders father's emblem that was placed at the entrance to is home in the 1870s.

This is pretty cool- below is the question to the question above from the website http://www.usfreeads.com/1460248-cls.html

The three pointed symbol has been designed to represent power over the land, the air and the sea. This may be the spiritual way of looking at the logo, but nowadays Mercedes Benz owners probably do not look at the logo in that way. To them, the Mercedes Benz AMG logo is a symbol of reliability, speed and quality of workmanship.
