Hunter this word tells someone is hunting for something. Love hunter, job hunter, man hunter , house hunter, money hunter and finally head hunter. An agent is head hunting for eligible talented beautiful young girls / boys to participate in the next coming "Idol Universal" Contest.

Centuries back, a certain type of inhabitants belonged to the Head Hunter tribe who killed and ate the people they killed as well chopped off their heads and hung them up at trees or huts to ward off bad luck.

A Head Hunter is more than just an executive recruiter. A Head Hunter is an executive recruiter who actually approaches suitable executives and tries to get them to change employment, usually with a better job, more pay and incentives and often in a higher position. Often times the employee is not actually even looking for a change of position.

A head hunter is a person who literally hunts for heads, aka people to match with potential employers. My friend is a head hunter and she spends a lot of time reviewing resumes and linking people with appropriate skills/education to jobs posted by various businesses. I have read some of the other responses and I can assure you that head hunters are not a primitive tribe running around the rainforest decapitating people and shrinking heads, what a joke.
