Permission Marketing is an approach to marketing whereby the receiver of the message gives their permission to receive it. This is usually done by providing the opportunity to confirm your 'opt-in' and therefore agree to receive information OR 'opt-out' of all future communication.

It is a relationship you enter into with an entity (company or organization) in which you give them permission to communicate with you. Hence: permission. The value of permission marketing is the people who give you permission to communicate with them are qualifying themselves to you. It's like advertising in a magazine called "I'd like to receive information about what you sell" instead of a magazine with readers you HOPE are interested in what you sell.
