With it's design as previously answered it can produce the same bhp of a larger conventional engine and is still a popular choice in the UK for Mazda who use a rotary engine in their RX-8 model. It has a 1.3 litre engine but its output is similar to a 1.8 or 2.0 litre 4 cylinder vehicle.

A Wankel is a rotary engine. Not to be confused with a wanker, which is a chap who enjoys his own company.
